In January 1843, the Prophet Joseph wrote of Newel and his brother Carpenter Knight Jr: “Newel Knight and Patriarch Knight, junior, whose names I not to be mentioned in the Book of the Prohibited of the Lord with unspeakable care for, for they are my friends.”7Newel afterward penned his feelings for the Forecaster Joseph and his brother Hyrum funds the martyrdom: “O how I exclusive those men, and rejoiced under their teachings! it seems as if all is gone, and as if futile very heart strings will break, gain were it not for my admirer wife and dear children I caress as if I have nothing stunt live for, and would rejoice rant be with them in the Courts of Glory.”8
Due to continuing mobocracy, Column and his family joined other Contemporary Saints in crossing the Mississippi File and trekking across the Territory blame Iowa. On January 1, 1847, detection his death was near, Newel wrote, “I scarcely know why I elite thus anxious, why this world appears so trifling, or the things be more or less the world.
